Summary :
A recent survey reveals that Indonesians are some of the top smokers in the world with 67.4 per cent of men over 15 years smoking. Gobal Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) also emphasises the high number of passive smokers, non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke.Health Minister Nafsiah Mboh said this figure shows that we have failed to protect our own people and we have defeated by tobacco industry. Each adult smoker consumes an average of almost 13 cigarettes each day. The survey team from the health ministry said an eight of adult smokers have started before the age 15. Indonesia was one of the only four countries in the region, including Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam, to participate in the survey. The survey using handheld electronic devices involves a total sampleof 8.994 households. KhanchitLimpakarnjanarat, WHO Indonesia Representative, said Today's report will drive prevention policies for tomorrow, to prevent unnecessary tragedy and suffering in our communities.

Response :
This article show us a survey that remind us about there are so many people in Indonesia are smoking. We all know smoking give many bad effects in our health. Not only the active smokers get the impact, but passive smokers too. Everyday we see so many people smoke and don't care anything arround him and what he breath. Just smoke and forget about negative impacts from smoke. We know all cigarettes advertisement give warn abaout negative impact from smoking, but so many people don't care about that and still smoking. Honestly I'm so sad when I read children under 15 years old smoke and breath dangerous toxic. Maybe they just follow their friends or influenced by their community but it is so dangerous for their health, breath it since they are still a children. They don't know what will happen in their life, health and their future. I think goverment should be concern about this, and give some actions to prevent that happen again and again. We don't want any increase number of smokers again, so we must fix this from young generation. Even this survey just take a little sample and not give us fix number of smokers in Indonesia,  and only 4 country that participate in this survey, this survey can become a warning for us that so many people in Indonesia less concerned about their health and all of us should be more concerned and care about our health and people health arround us.
